Day 8 - Cast all your cares on God

Over the last couple of days, lots of people have mentioned how anxious they are. They don’t know what’s happening right now. They don’t know what will happen tomorrow, never mind a week or a month down the line.

And there are lots of reasons for this. There’s the coronavirus itself. There’s the fact that every non-essential business has shut down. Then the fact that we are in lockdown and people are being told to stay at home. There are worries over food, house payments, job losses as well as the worry that someone you love might get sick.

When we can’t control a situation it’s brings out the anxiety in us all, and for some people this is a real and scary thing.

But God says it doesn’t have to be this way. He wants us to bring it all to Him. He wants us to pray and let Him take the worry from us.

More importantly, He wants us to leave it there.

You see we can relax and breathe (and we should) and we can pray and tell God all our worries, but what good does that do if we then take them back again and continue worrying?

It’s like rocking in a rocking chair - it gives you something to do but it doesn’t take you anywhere.

We need to properly give our worries, our anxious thoughts, our fears to God. He can handle them. Give them to Him and leave them there. When we have faith, trust Him and believe that He can take care of it, life is better.

I’m not saying all your worries just disappear. That won’t happen overnight - especially now when we are just about to hit the peak of the pandemic.

But what praying does is it gives you the peace to know that God is there, that He’s in control and that it’s not up to you to solve or find a way through this. He can help us - we just need to ask.
