Its always fun during this time to think about the old year, work out what went right and what went a little wonky, and what you'd like to change in the year ahead. Well, over the last few years I've had made New Year Resolutions, I've had a word of the year, I've tried focusing on certain areas, and none of them really worked. So this year I'm going to do a little bit of everything!
Earlier, I did a little 'test' answering some questions about my life and my dreams for next year and they gave me an idea for my 'word of the year'. The word they suggested is 'ABIDE' which I think is something that will really work for me. There are a lot of things happening this year and I need to focus on remaining in Christ and staying the course with Him as my focus.
The second part of my plan for 2020 is to look back at 2019 and celebrate the blessings, and look at any lessons I've learned from whats gone right. I want to grow the right things in 2020 - making sure that the things I spend my time on are going to get me to be the person I want to be. On her blog Lara Casey asks lots of questions that you can work through to help set some goals, and one of them is 'where do you want to be when you're 80...' The type of person you want to become starts right here. And from looking at that answer you can decided what areas you need to start working on.
I am very excited to be going through her process at the moment, asking the questions and really praying over my answers. I know what I want to become - a woman who loves God and who knows God and leads other people to Him. It's just a case of working out how to get there!
I do believe as well, that you need to look back at 2019 and see what went wrong. You can always learn from your mistakes, and failure is a stepping stone to becoming better. If you continue to do the same things every single year, you can't expect a different result. I found some diaries from years ago, and they could have been written this past year. With regards to some personal issues, especially with regards to my weight, I was able to see that I'd been doing the same things over and over, and guess what - since they didn't work the first time, they have never worked - no matter how many times I've tried!
Change is inevitable and although it might not be fun, it can be just whats needed to help us grow. A little seed that is growing in a plant pot has to move towards the sun, has to pop it's little head out of the soil to soak up the rays of life, even though it's a completely different environment to its warm dark soil. Change can be scary, but its also life-giving and necessary. And if we make sure God is at the centre of every change, it is freeing and victorious.
Tomorrow, being the last day of 2019, I'm hoping to look back at some highlights of my year, and get excited for what God has in store for me in 2020.
Keep shining xxx
