One of my favourite bands to listen to is 'The Gaither Vocal Band'. They sing amazing songs with fantastic lyrics. One of the songs I love singing along to (and by singing I mean screeching out as loud as I can as I drive), is 'It is finished'. I think it really helps me imagine the real life battle that happens every single day... the spiritual battle that we are told about.
On one side, march the forces of evil
All the demons, all the devils of hell
On the other, the angels of glory
And they meet on Golgotha's hill
But what we need to remember is there is only one outcome to this battle -
The earth shakes with the force of the conflict
And the sun refuses to shine
For there hangs God's Son, in the balance
And then through the darkness He cries
It is finished, the battle is over
It is finished, there'll be no more war
It is finished, the end of the conflict
It is finished and Jesus is Lord
Jesus ended the war - when He died for us, it truly was finished - once and for all. We have victory. It is so comforting to know that no matter how your life goes, or what battles you go through, we win. The victory is ours in Jesus.
Sometimes we don't get it though. The next verse
Yet in my heart, the battle was still raging
Not all prisoners of war had come home
These were battlefields of my own making
I didn't know that war had been won
Oh, but then I heard the King of the ages
Had fought all the battles for me
And that victory was main for the claiming
And now praise His name, I am free
I have struggled in so many areas of my life - but especially in my weight battle - and I do forget that the battle is already won. No matter how hard it may seem at the time - no matter how many times my 2lbs wants to go back on after I've lost it time and time again... it all works out and I will have victory over it. Hallelujah!! What a reason to praise God!!
