This week has been one of the longest weeks I've had in a long time. It started with a hectic Sunday and kinda went into slightly organised chaos! So this was my week, and given that eldest son also had a week where he did 5 GCSEs, it was a little stressy!!
SUNDAY
This morning we had the beautiful celebration of my niece's baptism - it was lovely and as always their minister, Reverend McAuley, spoke very well. It was also Hope's first birthday so it was extra special. After the service, we rushed home so I could out the finishing touches to our Sunday roast, where we were joined by a lovely couple that my husband works with. We spent the afternoon talking, eating, drinking cups of tea and enjoying the fellowship of believers together.
MONDAY
I work as a classroom assistant in a primary one class, so Monday mornings are slightly hectic, with dinner money, reading groups and lots of stories from the weekend activities. We always have lots of fun in P1, and this week was no exception. We were learning about clocks, looking at the 'Over in the Meadow' and doing lots of outside play in the beautiful sunny weather we've been having. This week was a little different though, as this is the week that the new P1s come to visit. Next year's class come in, in little groups, in the afternoon, to see their new room, their new teacher and get excited about the move to big school. Its very exciting! So after our P1s left, we got ready for the first wee group. And then home to feed the boys, and get ready for tomorrow...
TUESDAY
Today was the first real panic day. I was off work today because I had my first maths exam. Actually it was the first exam I've had in about 20 years, so a bit of panic was a given! But why was I doing a maths exam? I love maths and in my wisdom I decided that re-doing my maths degree was a fantastic idea. So this year I started with two modules that ran from October to June, and one that runs from February to September. So this last two weeks I had one EMA - end of module assignment - and one exam. It was terrifying... but really really enjoyable! Yep - its official - I'm just a nerd! So I spent the morning preparing and the afternoon in an exam. And then rushed home, got my youngest ready for jujitsu and ended up getting chips for tea because I was exhausted to cook.
WEDNESDAY
Today was a little more like Monday, with the morning spent playing with P1, painting their feet and making footprints to make flip-flops for my summer board (more about that another day!!) and then the afternoon meeting some newbies. The big thing about today however was the fact that sporty son (number 3) who is in P7 had the first night of his school play, so we were going to it this evening. He has worked so hard, and even had a solo, so it was a pleasure to go and watch him... but then I missed out working for tomorrow... which increased the panic there...
THURSDAY
So another day, another great day in school, especially as the weather was so good. For those who don't know, I live in Northern Ireland, so while it is beautiful and very green, we tend to get ok summers, ok winters and not much of either the sunny days or the snow! Well, apart from this time of year. Every year this month is hot, because all those poor kids are sitting inside revising or sitting in a room doing exams! I mean, if you aren't sitting in a really hot exam room in the middle of a really hot day, are you even doing exams? So, we had a great outdoor play day, and the children loved it. The toys we were playing with are so important to help their gross motor skills, and when you can do the activities outside, all the better. BUT THEN... I had to rush up to the other side of Belfast (about 45 mins in the car) to take part in a course that I'd been working on before Easter. Its a course especially for classroom assistants to help us to understand children with special needs, whether its sensory, core related, speech and language or other needs, and give us strategies to help them in the classroom. It has been a fascinating course and the information we have been given will be invaluable. But I missed the last session of our course, so had to finish today in Belfast with a different group. So its a different group of people, in a different place, with stuff that I haven't even had a chance to look at this week... panic! I am so thankful for the girls I sat beside ( after my 5 minutes of standing at the side and trying to go sit down!) - they were so nice and really helped me out. And breathe... Then back home for tea before the other half of the family rushed out to see the play!
FRIDAY
At last a day of celebration! Its my second son's 14th birthday! He is amazing. He's so kindhearted, so giving and would do anything for you. So this weekend is all about him (and someone else... spoilers!!) So today was definitely a little easier. School, home, Granny's and rest. We always go to my Mother-in-law's for tea on a Friday night for chips - its a tradition that we've been doing wince I was dating my hubby, and we're married 18 years this month! But these days its a little more 'eat and run' as my youngest has jujitsu that starts at 6. Then hubby takes them swimming , and I go home to sit... and relax... and chill... bliss!
SATURDAY
Today is a day at home. Finally! Birthday boy is going with a few friends to play foot-golf - yes you read it right - its where you play golf, with bigger holes, using your foot and a football instead of a golf club and ball. Yeah. Well. He is going to go and do that with his dad and a couple of friends, followed by lunch in one of our friendly neighbourhood McDonald's! Then we have a date at the cinema for us all to go together and watch the newest in the Jurassic Park/World series. And as for me, I have the lovely job of cleaning, stripping wallpaper and building wardrobes.. but actually to me that sounds fabulous!
SUNDAY
Back to Sunday and its youngest son's 10th birthday so its celebration time again. We're having his 'party' later in the week, so hopefully tomorrow will be a nice relaxing family day. We may even go for a walk!
So - its long, but this has been my week. Its not normally as full or exciting, but you can understand why its been a hard week. So hopefully, now that exams and new starts are all out of the way, I can get back to posting and enjoying every day!
Its all about growing!
