Day 56 - Having empathy

Yesterday I was watching a wee video that was posted by Jillian Michaels - you may remember her as one of the trainers on The Biggest Loser. Well, I follow her on Facebook and while there’s a lot of stuff I don’t agree with that she talks about, the video yesterday really struck me.

It was a video about our mental health and how we can stay sane during the pandemic. She talked about how everyone, on social media especially, had been pointing fingers at people - a need for someone to take the blame for all this.

But her message was that we need to have empathy.

Everyone is going through this storm together but we all have different circumstances.

Family A might need to stay inside (and they are happy to do that) because one of them is shielding, and the fear of something happening to them helps them to stay home.

But family B has a different fear. They are worried that they can’t pay their bills and need their work to reopen so they can make some much needed money.

Both families understand that the pandemic is real, dangerous and killing people. But they have different fears that rule what they do and how they look at it.

So she encouraged people to have empathy and realise everyone is doing what they think they need to do.

I realise that everyone has different thoughts on the corona virus, different thoughts on how we should be coming out of lockdown or whether we shouldn’t be at all... but we need to remember that no matter what fear you have, or what situation you are dealing with, God is there for you.

Obviously JM didn’t mention God in her video (although she quoted the Serenity Prayer), but we know that no matter what God is in control and He has us.

Remember He loves you more than you can possibly imagine and whatever fear that drives you right now - give it to Him.

"The LORD is on my side;
I will not fear. What can man do to me?"
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭118:6‬

Have a lovely weekend girls!
